If you are like me, it can be hard to find ways to fill the summer with fun activities while the kids are not in school. We always try to have things planned, but there still seems to be a lot of empty space. It is probably inevitable to have some days where we aren’t doing much, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try! Today I want to share some fun activities that you can do with your family (or by yourself in some cases :)).

Five Fun Summer Break Activities

These five activities are a great way to pass the time this summer while having fun at the same time!

1. Go On A Hike

I know that I complain about the crazy Colorado weather occasionally, but to be honest, when it is nice outside it is beautiful! We have some great hiking trails in the mountains near our home with nice creeks and lots of trees for shade. Last week we went to a place called the “Lair O’ the Bear” in Morrison, Colorado. We were able to enjoy some delicious burgers, fruit, and other sides before going for a great hike along the river. Everyone had a great time and it was so nice to be outside when the weather was so nice.

2. Go To The Zoo

This is one activity that we always plan at least once each year. Fortunately for us, we have two great zoos within driving distance – the Denver Zoo in Denver, and the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs. Both are great, even though parking can be tough depending on the day that you go. What I love about the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is that it is located in a mountainous area and it follows the natural terrain. That means that you have to walk up some hills, but it is worth it and we absolutely love it!

3. Have an Ice Cream and Movie Night

I have to admit – this is an activity that sometimes I like to do on my own (or just with my husband). Sometimes after filling the day with so many family activities, it is nice to just curl up on the couch, grab a pint of delicious Häagen-Dazs® ice cream, and watch a movie. Häagen-Dazs ice cream is my ice cream of choice for these rare occasions.

Haagen Dazs Charbel

It is so delicious and is the perfect size to enjoy. My favorite flavors are definitely the Strawberry flavor, and the Dulce de Leche flavor.

With ice cream that is this good, it definitely doesn’t last long!

If you love Häagen-Dazs ice cream as much as I do, now is a great time to buy some at your nearest 7-Eleven, because there is currently a sweepstakes going on with great prizes that will help you pursue your passion!

4. Go to a Baseball Game

I know that in recent years baseball may not be as popular as some other sports, but in my opinion it is still hard to beat a great day at the ballpark with family and friends. We have not made it to a game yet this year, but we definitely have it on our list and hopefully we will be able to make it in the next month or so. Every time we go, we have a great time cheering on our favorite team and enjoying ballpark food. Even if our team loses, it is still a fun activity – and since the games are pretty long it takes up a good amount of time too!

5. Go Camping

Growing up in Mexico I never really had the chance to go camping. Since coming to the United States, I really haven’t gotten into yet either! That said, I am trying to get my courage up for spending some time in the outdoors on a camping trip with my family. About a month ago my husband and my oldest son went on a camping trip with our church group, and as you can see from the pictures, they had a blast! It was all my son could talk about for at least a week. If you have some places around you where you can get away from civilization and spend time together as a family camping, I am sure that you will have a great time!

Obviously there are many other activities that you can do to fill your time this summer, but these 5 are definitely at the top of my list! We only have a little bit over a month left until school will be getting back in session, so I look forward to many more activities with my family before that happens.

What are some of your favorite things to do during the summer?
