Easy Weeknight Breadsticks 1

These breadsticks are a perfect side dish for your favorite Italian dish and they are so easy to make - perfect for a weeknight when you are busy!

We all want to eat better, but sometimes it can be difficult. Having 2 little boys and another on the way, I am always on the go and dinner time gets here before I know it every day. It is especially tough during the week when my husband works all day. I try to have a completely home cooked meal as often as possible, but sometimes I just need a simpler solution. I just recently learned about the Balance Your Plate program. Balance Your Plate is an educational program designed to help you put together delicious and nutritious meals that incorporate both frozen and fresh foods.

Even though I like to make a lot of meals from scratch, I can definitely get on board with the idea of combining some frozen elements with fresh ingredients to make a well balanced meal. For today’s post, I want to share a quick meal idea for those weekend nights when there just isn’t enough time.

The main dish for this meal is Stouffer’s Family Size Lasagna with Meat & Sauce. Stouffer’s has recently launched its “Kitchen Cupboard” initiative to only use fresh ingredients that people can find at home. Their lasagna with meat & sauce now has a more simple recipe with fewer ingredients, but it is still delicious and convenient. I definitely turn to Stouffer’s family sized meals when I am in a pinch to get dinner ready in time.

Of course I always like to have great side dishes to go along with this Stouffer’s Lasagna with Meat & Sauce. One of my favorites are these easy weeknight breadsticks. My mother in law taught me this recipe, and it is so much easier than making them from scratch! All you need is a bag of frozen rolls from the freezer section of your local grocery store, some real butter, fresh herbs, garlic powder, and parmesan cheese.

You start by thawing out the rolls on a greased pan for about an hour.

The next step is to stretch them out into 4-5 inch breadsticks and let rise for about 30 minutes to an hour.

Finally, combine real butter with Italian seasoning, your choice of fresh herbs, parmesan cheese, and garlic powder and heat in the microwave until melted. Then brush this mixture onto the breadsticks, covering each completely.

Finish by baking for 15 minutes at 375 F.

The result are perfectly soft, yet crispy breadsticks that go perfectly with Stouffer’s Family Size Lasagna with Meat & Sauce. Delicious and easy!
